Indian >Tandoor Indian Restaurant
Worst Service ever. After waiting for an hour for our food, we left. This Tandoor is a far cry from what they had before the original burned down. I will never darken their door again. The romance and magic is gone for us and if the owner gave a d@mn, he'd fix the problem before he goes out of business. Word of mouth goes a long way in Clarksville.
STAY AWAY. My service ended with the owner calling me a F___ ing "N" word and me calling the police. But let's start from the beginning. I ordered a meal to go. They charged me before I received the order and included a 15% gratuity. I complained about the gratuity and asked for it to be removed. Later I heard the waitress ask the cook whether they made the order really hot. I took it back to the hotel, but it was way too hot to eat. I returned it but the owner refused to refund me. When I opened it to show it was not eaten he grabbed it and it spilled all over me. He then called me expletive "N" and I called 911.
GREAT GREAT GREAT.
I've eaten Indian food at all of the restaurants in Nashville, as well as several places in New England, and Tandoor is , hands down, the BEST Indian food I've ever had. The staff is really great, and while several of them are new to Indian food themselves, they are always trying new things to give recommenda...tions to others. The owner is the nicest guy, always coming to visit my wife and I on the 2, 3 or 4 trips we make every week. We love the buffet, but the personal touch we get with dinner is wonderful. I really do not know what the negative reviewers are expecting, but they either don't have a clue what Indian food is, nor want to know, or they can find something to complain about anywhere. Tandoor is GREAT!
In regards to long wait times, this was true when it reopened after the fire, but the kitchen and wait staff has been sorted out and the only wait now is while your food is being prepared. We take our time and enjoy our meals now!
Negative Reviewers are Crazy.
Every Meal I have had here has been 5 star. I have tried every Indian restaurant in Nashville and multiple others throughout the states and this is by far the best hands down. I am originally from Scotland and Indian food is almost the national fare so I feel I know what I am talking about.
Pros are as follows:
It is the ONLY Indian that does lamb on its buffet.
It has a buffet for lunch for 7 dollars every day.
The evening meals are wonderfully presented and the kitchen will custom cook items not on the menu (we regularly ask for peshwari and keema nans with no problem.
The owner comes out and greets customers.
I don't know where previous reviewers ate but it was not this restaurant.
TERRIBLE SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT.
Do not eat here! If your food is inedible, you shouldn't feel accused of trying to get a free meal from the manager. The manager came to our table very defensively when we said that a chicken dish my husband order was not as described. We had a miscommunication with out server in regards to how much spice was added to the dish. The server then told us she placed the order the way we had ordered it, but they did not follow the order's request. The manager was angry with us for trying to order a mild dish because they aren't a "corporate" restaurant. We did not even mention anything about corporate restaurants! My husband asked the server if the dish was possible to be ordered mild and the server said the dish actually had no spice to it. We tried to explain that the server told us the dish is not a spicy dish, but all he said to us was "WHAT DO YOU THINK INDIAN FOOD IS? INDIAN FOOD IS SPICY!" which I understand, but if it reads not spicy and told not spicy, then it is expected not spicy! So all he did was grab the dish and took it to the back and threw some rice into the container and brought the container back with nasty finger prints all over the box! We did not take the box home because we were quite sure he handled our food with his fingers...how else would his finger prints be all over the box!? Then he threw the box down our table and said..."All i did was throw rice in it!" and left, apparently that was supposed to fix our spicy issue. They wouldnt re-cook it. Not to also mention the meal took about 2 hours because service was awful. I would never return to a restaurant that cannot make good dish and have managers that are on the defensive and rude!
TANDOORI IS TERRIBLE!
You can read the long version below or if you just want the short version: Don't bother with Tandoor go to Sitar in Nashville. Tandoor is so slow that you could drive to Nashville's Sitar on 21st Ave. (get better food and better service), eat, and be on the way home before the staff at Tandoor pays any attention to you.
We arrived before dinner rush and there were a few couples already eating and some single customers waiting for food. We knew what we wanted so we immediately placed our drink order and put our food order in. After 15-20 minutes, three other couples arrived. We watched everyone around us, including the other couples that came in after us, get their food. After an hour, plus 5 or 10 minutes, of waiting, our food finally arrived. Upon close examination we knew this was not what we ordered. Our server informed us that she brought out the wrong order. So we had to wait again for the right food. My husband ordered the Lamb Masala (mild) and I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala (which I emphasized was to be cooked hot, hot, hot!). Once our correct order finally arrived the lamb was room temperature and the chicken tikka masala was mild and not the spicy temperature that I had requested. A huge disappointment. Three MORE couples arrived and still got their food in a timely manner. Apparently, we were the only people who had sat around for more than an hour to get food. OH!! And to top it all off management never offerred us a complimentary meal or even a discount.
You have to ask for silverware! Each time we have been we have had to ask for silverware. Tonight a gentleman behind us had his food and had to ask the server for silverware, the server went and did other things before getting it to him.
They need to train their staff on Indian cuisine. They are clueless on the food. A table beside us asked the server about the contents of a cream sauce that comes on a dish of yours. The server responded, "well, it is creamy".
Awful. The food was terrible, I don't think it could have been worse. And the service left something to be desired. The server seemed absent minded and careless. I like Indian, but from here.
Not The Best. I was in Clarksville visiting friends and we decided to try Tandoor. The place is very well decorated and the in ambience is quite. The service is average. However, the food is well below average. I love Indian food and I was very disappointed after tasting my food. I ended up just nibbling it and never actually finishing it, as did my best friend. Her husband finished his food, but said he had better at other restaurants. I would not recommend Tandoor to anyone looking for authentic Indian Cuisine.
Definitly worth going to!!!. I have been to Tandoor a few times and have been very pleased. I actually drive about an hour and a half. once a month to eat there. The food is excellent and it has a wonderful atmosphere. They also have great service. My only problem with this restaurant is that every time I go there they don't have any samosas available. I would though, totally recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My Favorite Comfort Food. My husband and I frequent Tandoor every chance we get. We've moved to Nashville and we drive to Clarksville just to get a taste. Husband's dish of choice is Chicken Pasanda, a really flavorful dish with a delicious and fragrant sauce. I have trouble picking a favorite myself; I hope to try everything on the menu at least once. I go for the spicy Shrimp Vandallo or a new dish, Mughulai Chicken: it has a creamy sauce chock full of pistachios and golden raisins. Deeelicious. The owners are great people and we enjoy visiting with them as much as we enjoy the food. A great asset to Clarksville!
